Sands of Time
In Sands of Time Sidney Sheldon switches his formula just a bit. His heroines are not women of the world. They are nuns on the run from a crazed Colonel. Colonel Acoca and Jamie Miro are engaged in a bitter battle in the years following fascist Franco in Spain.
Acoca seizes a convent and the nuns are forced to flee where they meet Miro. He helps the ladies cross the border of Spain. These ladies may be more aware of the outside world than they let on.
While on the run the women all encounter romance and suspense. This book came out in 1989.
